Cat

Bit short of time this evening so a bit desperate for an idea. Just scribbled a few ideas down and the cat then appeared in this form.

Geraniums

Geraniums at Wrest Park in the orangery or similar sort of building attached to the house. I was out of the wind here and painted these fairly quickly. Would like to do more flower sketches this year once there are a few more around.

Pavilion, Wrest Park, Beds.

Visited the English Heritage property of Wrest Park today at Silsoe, Bedfordshire. It was breezy and cold and not a great day for sitting outside and drawing but I managed this sketch of the Pavilion in the gardens. Colours are a bit pale as the light was quite bright and so my iPad screen was more difficult to see.

Desert Island

I was was inspired to do this after seeing some cartoons on the web a few days ago, and just wanted something quick to draw today.

On the move

If one had a beautifully big garden it would be a good idea to have a mobile garden shed that could be moved around the garden into new places as and when required.

Library

I love browsing in book shops, libraries or through piles of second-hand books. This looks like a good place in which to spend a happy few hours on a warm and sunny day.

More tea dear?

Sat down at lunchtime today and brainstormed some ideas for the next few days. Feel happier now. Discovered on the internet a pleasant little tea shop in Shropshire I would quite like to go to sometime. Will start a summer Cream Tea fund.

In the woods

This is hard work! Trying to settle down each evening to do something on the iPad is not easy. In some ways drawing on paper is so much easier as there aren't so many limitations and constrictions to image size and tool choice. Scribbling ideas onto paper is easier as the pencil more readily captures fine detail and nuances in the line. The iPad gives flexibility in other ways but I don't always find it easier to use to just create a quick sketch from "cold". Not quite sure what to do. Perhaps I am trying to do too many varied things. I'd be happy just sitting in a cafe all day as I love that sort of environment for being creative in. Perhaps my challenge of a picture a day is too demanding....

The Storyteller

Went to the children's book festival today at Luton Hoo Walled Garden and spent the day there drawing in beautiful spring sunshine. I didn't see this particular character amongst the crowds of people but I was a bit stuck for what to draw late in the evening and so decided to create what might be my alter ego!

Girl and Dog

Character development (as I call it).

Flowers

Just experimenting here with different ways of drawing flowers. I've also got my inks out again and I am trying to get back into real painting so that I don't get too rusty of too reliant on digital painting - but I'm not yet planning to post that work here yet.

Lambs

Typical Devon scene of lamb-filled grassy fields edged with stone walls and high beech trees. Most of the fields were still a brownish green as the spring grass had hardly begun to grow yet.

Cotehele, Devon 7-4-13

Visited the National Trust property at Cotehele on 7th April. It was a cold and windy day and the daffodils were not yet out in all their glory. In fact there was not much blossom out anywhere. Some camellias looked colourful and while standing next to a bush about to draw some of the flowers a robin came and pottered around me. It was incredibly tame and was quite happy to sit on a branch barely a couple of feet away from me. I sketched the flowers and took photos of the robin and then completed the picture later in the evening. I wasn't quite sure how what style I was going to use and this was a bit of an experiment.

Morwellham Quay, Devon 6-4-13

Two sketches here. One is a line drawing of some of the buildings on the museum site, and the other is an old horse drawn implement which I quite liked.

Lamerton, Devon 5-4-13

Arrived in Lamerton to find a magical wonderland of bright sunshine and a garden full of primroses, violets, celandines, fritillaries, daisies, daffodils and violets. Had left behind a cold frosty Luton and now arrived in a place where the Spring season seems to arrived in a microcosm of colour and warmth. The change was almost unbelievable. There was still a cold wind away from the sheltered garden and I did a quick sketch looking down on the village late in the afternoon.

Pony and Chickens

Off out getting inspiration for a few days so, although drawing, may not be posting regularly. Will be back soon.

Flowers

This was adapted from an image I found on the web. I am collecting images that inspire me and then I can use them as as source for trying out different illustration techniques. I am not always finding it easy to create pictures on my daily challenge - it takes about an hour on average I'd say to get something into a postable form and I'm not always sure what will appear when I sit down to draw.

Snowdrifts

I went out for an early morning bike ride on Easter Day and there were still plenty of snowdrifts along some of the hedgerows on higher ground. After a frosty night the snow was frozen hard and held my weight without any sinking. It felt and sounded like I might have been walking over meringues.
