Just a bit of creative play today. The problem I have (or the challenge) is that I would like to try and develop a consistent style of personal illustration that is fun for me to develop and take forward. I am not quite sure what to do. Being versatile is sometimes an advantage but in some ways I would like to have a more distinctive style that I can use in more practical ways. I will have a think and see what happens. At the moment I am mainly concentrating on some character development.

Spent a few hours in the cafe at Wrest Park today as I had the morning off. Sketching on the iPad isn't always easy and these aren't quality skecthes. On a drawing pad there is spacial freedom to run lines anywhere on the paper but on the iPad there is a different scale and it is taking a bit of time to get used to doing this sort of work. Still, it is good practice for me and is a bit of a challenge.

I haven't been posting much recently because I've either been working on some illustration projects at work and working overtime; spending time in my new studio in the evenings scribbling on sheets of paper or busy just being lazy or preoccupied with other things. I happened to be in a local cafe yesterday sketching people and happened to do this portrait on the iPad. It was a bit of an experiment and I'm not too pleased with it but as with all sketching like this I never know how much time I will have before the person decides to get up and walk off.

A pony grazing. Haven't drawn horses for ages. Did do a bit if sketching at a local horse show last week but was a bit out of practice and wasn't happy with the results. This was an attempt to remind myself of a few basics such as getting the number if legs right!

A little rusty

This was a quick lunchtime skectch of a vaguely vintage tractor of unspecified manufacture. I drew it entirely from memory and it may bare some resemblance to a Field Marshall tractor, but it isn't intended to be. I do spend odd moments watching you tube videos of vintage farm machinery and I would like to darw more things on that theme.
